Character Spotlight: Camila (The Support)
[EXCERPT FROM THE BEGONER’S CLUB BEAST BINDER]
Welcome, reader, to our member list! Today, it’s probably time for me to tell you about the Begoner’s Official Archivist. In other words, me, Camila!!
To start with, some fun facts about me are that I’m an honor scholar, I’m in the school majorettes, and while I love reading books and writing for journalism (like the school paper), my favorite subject has always been science!
It might have been fate, therefore, that made me learn about the Begoners through science class.
It happened on an April morning in seventh grade: the boy who normally sat next to me (it was Deacon, but he never talked to me back then!! >.<) came into the chemistry lab early with wild hair and red-rimmed eyes, like he hadn’t slept the whole night before! I was quietly doing my extra credit, and he didn’t see me as he went to the big sink and furiously soaped and scrubbed the corner of his flannel! So I got up just to see if I could help, and that’s when he realized I was there! He jumped, and next looked terribly embarrassed, but I got him to show me the green goo that was stuck to his shirt, and I realized it was unlike any scientific substance I had seen before!
So I’m sure you want to get to the cool part. Well, after some experimenting with different chemicals, we tried other things, like U.V. Light, and friction. But then we noticed that the goo seemed to kind of quiver when our voices got louder, and when Deacon accidentally knocked down the metal yardstick, it seemed like it almost visibly shrank!
That made me think, “Oh, if it’s going to respond to strong sound vibrations, then I know just the thing!” I grabbed the tuning fork from the teacher’s cabinet, and struck it hard and loud on the edge of the table! As it thwonnngged, the goo-bits began to wobble and turn into balls, and fall right off!
Fast forward to now, and that’s still a trick I use to this day! It’s become my secret tool for attacking the monstery gunk that we find everywhere, and it really works better than you think!
A lot has happened though, and as a member of the Begoners, you should know that I run around with a lot more than a noisy fork and my sharp wits! >.< My fightlight becomes this elegant Star Baton, actually, (it’s just like a toy wand I had when I was a kid, but don’t tell anyone!) and with a flick I can fling jolts of light in every direction!
When I concentrate, I can even make these giant supernovas fly out, and when we set them off, it’s so satisfying to see creeps and monsters go exploding everywhere!
The other thing I’ve been told I bring is my team spirit : ) Because every Friday, I perform at the Pennybrook basketball games as a majorette, and so I’m good at cheering on a group (even when we’re usually losing -.- hahaha). That experience ends up being surprisingly useful in the dark, when instead of a roaring school crowd, we have roaring monsters all around us! My rally flag helps keep us all together, working towards our achievements, and trusting in our combined strength to win!
After I joined the Begoners, I decided to take the job of recording our meetings and practice times in my journal. Being organized is like starting out a race two steps ahead! So I also started the Beast Binder, to track stuff we found and found out! Though I didn’t think I was an adventurer when I first started, and I’m definitely not the bravest one, I think I really love exploring and learning about the unknown with my friends.
Finally, with this entry now concluded, I want to thank you for reading about all the Begoners’ original four members! Stay tuned for more fun things to come!
Sincerely,
Your Earnestest Archivist <3,
Camila,
The Begoner’s Official Archivist
