Character Spotlight: Ate (The Fighter)

[EXCERPT FROM THE BEGONER’S CLUB BEAST BINDER]

Welcome, reader, to our member list! Today, let’s learn about Ate, the founder of the Begoner’s Club!

If I had to say one thing that surprises everyone about Ate, it is that “Ate” is not even her real name! It is Madeline! But only teachers call her that! (Her Lola calls her “Mad,” and Benny thought that might be because of her face, but then Deacon said, no, it was probably just a shortening of Madeline. >.<) 

Anyway, after her little brother was taken away by C.O.N.E., Ate decided to make the Begoner’s Club, who would meet every day after school in order to fight the BEASTS so he could come home! I’m not totally sure how that is supposed to work, but Ate seems confident it will : )

Now I know you’re wondering about the cool part: Ate’s fightlight! Well of course it comes out as a huge sword, and she leaps around with it, slashing and spinning and thwacking enemies! Some would say she looks crazed when she does this, but it is nice to think that, just for a moment, the monsters are actually afraid of us!

Her and Benny make an especially good team, because he closes his eyes and swings his hammer around, bonking everything! Then she can just run in and deliver the finishing blow! I don’t know how they make it work exactly, but I always feel a little sorry for the bad guys… or I would if I wasn’t busy dodging and screaming myself! 

The last thing about Ate that I think is important to know, is that she hates to lose. So she’ll become really HUGE if she has to, and turn invincible, and use her sword like she’s a kid-kaiju swinging a tree! She does this in order to make sure we all make it out okay. That’s why, even if it is a little scary, it is really good to have someone like her on your side : )
